An Alaskan Style Pumpkin Patch

In October we did what all young families do in the fall… we visited a pumpkin patch. And by pumpkin patch, what I really mean is a reindeer farm with a handful of pumpkins scattered around a field. An Alaskan style pumpkin patch! It turns out we decided to go on the busiest day of the month, so by the time we arrived there were literally 10 pumpkins left in the field. But that was ok because we were really there for the reindeer anyway.

We visited this same pumpkin patch last year and had a blast.

I was looking forward to heading back with Lillian, knowing she was at an age where she could enjoy it more. She had a fun time picking out a pumpkin, checking out the reindeer and elk, and running around the farm. She had a bit of a meltdown in the hay maze (after getting trampled by big kids!!), but it was nothing her dad and a few Crunchies couldn’t fix.

Even though this took place way back in October, I still wanted to post about it and share the pictures. They kinda have a Christmasy vibe with the reindeer, right?!?!

I hope everyone is enjoying these last couple days of hustle and bustle before Christmas. Things are finally slowing down around here. We got all of our Christmas cards mailed, a few goodies baked, a tree chopped down and decorated, and last night we finally visited Santa. It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

Much love,

Pyrah’s Pioneer Peak Farm

Located just north of us is a magical place called Pyrah’s Pioneer Peak Farm. It’s a U-Pick farm, where you pick your own produce to take home for a very reasonable price. A few weeks ago they had a Harvest Festival to celebrate the season and share the bounty of their farm. This could not be left off of our “fun things to do while Blake is gone” list.

We woke up to gorgeous weather on the day of the festival, so Lillian and I were extra excited.

There was lots to do on the farm. Hayrides, face painting, a petting zoo, a leaf fight pit, yummy food, great entertainment. The list goes on and on. And you guys, they even had a real live unicorn!!

All that looked and sounded great, but we spent the entire day walking through the fields and picking produce. Lillian loved playing in all of the mud puddles. It was fun to let her loose and watch her run through the fields. Finally, an activity where she could run free and I didn’t have to be running after her yelling “NO”.

Serious running face. She’s gonna be fast like her daddy!

We picked broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage to take home. It was all delicious.

I took Lillian’s shoes off to change her socks after we were done in the fields. This is what I found… and this is how I know she had an awesome time.

It was a good day. Happy fall y’all!

Living Local | Modern Dwellers Chocolate Lounge

This is a pretty random post, but I’ve found a place I love and I feel the need to share.

I’ve been wanting to visit Modern Dwellers Chocolate Lounge ever since Blake brought home a little box of truffles he received as a gift at work. I tried one four and was hooked (pumpkin spice, turbo thai, margarita zing, blueberry patch). A few weeks ago I had some errands to run in Anchorage, so Lillian and I decided to stop in for a fun mommy-daughter date.

I loved the place as soon as we walked in the door. We were greeted and offered a sample of sipping chocolate. It was my first time tasting sipping chocolate. They have a regular flavor and a spicy one. I went with the spicy. Delicious.

After we got settled in, I put in my order for a latte and two truffles. I ordered the pistachio passion truffle and an espresso one that I can’t remember (or find on the website) the name of.

We did some exploring while we waited for my order. It’s such a neat place! Chocolate is displayed and for sale everywhere. I loved checking out the large display case containing the truffles, caramels, and bonBOMBS. Of course they sell a smoked salmon chocolate bar. I didn’t try it, but I’m definitely trying it next time. They also make a salmon truffle! Whoa. There’s more than just chocolate on the menu. Think coffee house + chocolate. Something for everyone.

The coolest seat in the house is a little bar area where you can sit and watch all of the delicious chocolate goodness being made. Lillian loved watching the chocolatiers at work. I’m with her, it was pretty cool.

When my order was ready, I dove into the chocolate and Lillian dove into a bottle (and a teething ring). She was the best little date. She’s at an age now where it’s actually fun to go places with her. Praise the Lord!

We had such a great time at Modern Dwellers Chocolate Lounge. I dedicated an entire post to the place, so clearly I loved it. I can’t wait to go back and try more things on the menu!

It’s a gorgeous day here in Alaska. Lillian is taking a little nap and then we’re going to go outside for a walk. We might even head into Fur Rondy, a winter festival going on right now (read more about it here). I hope everyone is having a great weekend and a happy Sunday!
