Weekend Recap

I realize my ‘Weekend Recap’ is coming to you on a Thursday. However, I did get it posted before the upcoming weekend. That should count for something. Right? Anyway, we had a jam packed weekend. I think we’re all still a little tired but it was worth it.

It has been really warm here. Mid 40s and a couple days in the 50s! On Friday the sun even came out for the first time in what feels like months… and months and months and months. Lillian and I took full advantage. We ran some errands and went for a nice little walk in Anchorage, before meeting Blake for happy hour to get the weekend started.

Saturday morning we packed up {the entire house} and headed back into Anchorage. Blake’s work was finally having their holiday party and had a day of activities planned in the city. As such, we decided to spend the night at a hotel downtown. The party kicked off with some family bowling. Blake bowled his highest score ever, bowling every frame with Lillian intact. He was so proud!

That night the adults went to dinner and then out on the town. I haven’t been to a bar in Alaska since having Lillian. Whoa. We had a blast! We probably should have taken a picture earlier in the night. But at least we got one!

So… that was all good fun. But the real fun happened on Sunday morning. On Sunday morning… Lilly went swimming! I had been anticipating this milestone all week and could hardly wait. I almost died when we put her in her little bathing suit. Too cute!

She loved the water. Loved it! She had the best time flutter kicking around the pool. Water was splashing in her face but she didn’t care. She just kept kicking away. The ex-lifeguard in me was so proud. Get ready for some serious cuteness below.

She even did some cheering stunts. What better place to practice than in the pool?!

She had such a good time that I’m looking into signing her up for a baby swim class. I think it would be a fun activity for us to take her to on the weekends. Like my dad said, she’s gotta get trained up for the Olympic tryouts. ;)

I hope everyone had a great weekend. We sure did!

Alaskan Adventure | Fishing Prince William Sound

In August Blake and I were  invited to go on an overnight fishing trip in the Prince William Sound. Our friends have a big ocean boat and they were nice enough to ask us to go out with them for the weekend. Do we have the best friends ever or what?! I was a little lot nervous about leaving Lillian, though I knew she would be in great hands. After days of being persuaded (and Blake begging), I decided it would be a healthy and much-needed break.

Best. Decision. Ever. We left early on a Saturday morning and drove to Whittier, where we docked the boat and got on the water. From there, we headed out to the middle of nowhere to find some fish. And find them we did! We caught tons of silver salmon and a few cod-fish. We also dropped some prawn pots, Deadliest Catch style. :)

We had such a fun day fishing, chatting, enjoying some adult beverages, and relaxing on the water. At sunset we dropped the anchor in a nice little bay, made some dinner, had a few more adult beverages, and eventually headed to bed. We woke up early Sunday morning and did it all over again!

Day 2

I can definitely say that this was the best time I have had since moving to Alaska. Easily. We were surrounded by the most beautiful scenery imaginable. The weather was gorgeous. The company was great! The mountains were blue. The fish were biting. Good times all around.

We cannot thank our friends enough for taking us with them. We made great memories that will last a lifetime! I am still smiling and laughing about some of the stuff that happened on that boat.

Lillian’s Baptism

As most of you know, we spent the beginning of this month in ND visiting family and friends. It was a blast! It always goes way too fast and we’re always sad to leave. Is it just me or does having a kid(s) make it 100 times harder to say goodbye? I’ve never been good with goodbyes. I was the girl that would cry pulling out of my parent’s driveway to head back to college. Every time until the day I graduated. I’m serious. I thought I was bad then but having Lillian has taken it to a whole new level. I’m fine once I get to where I’m going. It’s just the initial leaving part that I struggle with. Ugh, I hate goodbyes!

Anyway. The most exciting thing that happened while we were in ND was Lillian’s baptism, which just happened to fall on her 7 month birthday! A little late, I know. BUT Blake and I really wanted our families to be a part of it. So we waited… and waited… and waited… until we could get back to ND and do it in the parish I grew up in.

We were pretty nervous about how she would handle the whole thing since she was no longer a teeny newborn that could sleep through anything (e.g., nearly drowning in a basin of holy water). I was also nervous about her freaking out in the 6 sizes too small, itchy baptismal gown I was planning on putting her in. I wanted her to wear the gown I wore when I was baptized (at a few weeks old, whoops).  To make sure it would work, I tested it out before we left for ND. She literally tried throwing herself off a chair because she was so pissed about it.

Fear not. She did great! She was very content and listened to the priest’s every word. So cute. When it was time to be rubbed down with oil or be dunked in the holy water, she didn’t make a peep. Proud mama here! Also, the gown ended up looking adorable. We swapped the bonnet out for a fashionable bow and added a bib that she got from her grandparents. Proof that the right accessories can make all the difference. ;)

It was a great day and such a special day in Lillian’s life. Many thanks to everyone that could be a part of it!

Much Love,

Cherish 2014!!

Wow, I can’t believe it is already 2014! 2013 was such a busy and exciting year. It will always hold a special place in my heart as it is the year baby Lilly came into my life. But I am ready for 2014! I am confident that it will bring lots of blessings and excitement.

My word for 2014 is cherish.

With 2013 literally flying by, I want to focus on cherishing life’s little moments in the new year. There are times when life gets so busy, stressful, and chaotic. Most of the time I find myself going through the motions to get through as quickly and easily as possible. This year I want to take a step back in those moments, breathe, notice, and find the good in them. I want to remember them and hold them dear. Cherish them. Because in the blink of an eye they are gone.

“You will never have this day with your children again. Tomorrow they will be a little older than they were today. This day is a gift. Breathe and notice. Smell and touch them. Study their faces and little feet. Pay attention. Relish the charms of the present. Enjoy today, Mama. It will be over before you know it.”
